Rummage FLOP

Disappointed shoppers..Road-block

So, like THOUSANDSSSS of others today, I excitedly headed down to Brick Lane for the American Apparel Rummage Sale. (the facebook event showed over 30,000 people planning to attend the event). It promised great things, such as up to 85% off all items, stock being constantly replenished, and prices starting from as little as £1. But the reality of it was this. Too many people. Not enough space. They hired a 22,000 sq ft space in Brick Lane (UP) Sunday Market. I wish I could tell you what it was like inside, but sadly I never even got through the pearly gates of American Apparel Rummage-dom. I arrived at the event in good time (it started at 10am), and was met with queues which were like NOTHING I have ever seen before. Bigger than the Beyonce concert queue, Jay Z, Alicia Keys....out of this world.

The queue did move quite quickly, and after about an hour I was pretty much right at the front, but to my dismay shortly after a huge commotion started, people running screaming (over what, I could not tell you!) police were involved, hitting people with truncheons, a guy got arrested for starting a fight....etc etc etc.

The police closed the event 'Until Further Notice' and a member of AA staff put up a sign outside which was probably printed in the panic, which advised us all to disperse and check facebook and twitter for further updates! I only saw about 10 people in total who had bags on them, and had actually bought things, because it was over that quickly!!!
The facebook page apologises for the inconvenience and has yet to confirm whether the event will go on as planned tomorrow and Sunday, however, they did offer to 'make it up to everyone' and posted some online and in-store voucher codes for 25% off purchases.
All in all, a shambolic morning! But all was not lost, I had to salvage the day and decided to go shopping anyway, and bought a few nice bits :D

Shoes, glorious SHOES!

Ooooh, got some new shoesies! Steve Madden Zip heels, they're quite the SEX if I must say so myself!

This woman's work...

I've been listening to Maxwell a lot these last few days and realising all over again why I loved the 'BLACKsummers'night' album so much. And has also, sadly, made me realise how SINGLE I am... Yknow when you hear a song and just think, wow I want that feeling.
But as the old song goes; you can't hurry love, no you just have to wait...
Went to meet an old friend at her uni bar today, and for a while I actually felt OLD, its weird when things like that happen it makes me realise I am actually a grown up now and not a student anymore. As if the world of work doesn't tell me that everyday! But being sat in a 'Student Union' and probably being one of the very few non students, kind of brought it to light in an overwhelming way. So thankful for how far I've come in the 9 months since finishing Uni also hold dearly the lovely memories and friends I made during that colourful Uni journey.

One in a million

I spent a large part of this afternoon watching loads of random shows on MTV Base, and one them was 'Top 10 Aaliyah', and it really made me think about (apart from remembering how talented and beautiful she was), but also exemplified how short life was. She, amongst many others, have had their lives snatched away in an instant, and this makes me think....you really cannot waste a second! Sounds cliche, and has been said many times before, but yknow when it just dawns on you afresh? It makes me really want to make the most out of every day, and everyone I have around me. My life is one in a million so I intend to live it that way!

"A unique heroine...a jaw dropping ending"

The millennium trilogy consists of, ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’, ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’, and ‘The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest’.

The first in the series, tells the tale of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’, - Lisbeth Salander, who is a somewhat, unconventional modern heroine. This was one of those books, recommended to me by a friend, and initially I thought, ‘I won’t enjoy this, this isn’t my kind of book’. I will admit the first in the series, ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, did not get off to a great start for me. I found it initially difficult to engage in the story, as there seemed to be so many characters and it was difficult to stay focussed. However, after a few chapters I was well and truly captured by the gripping plot. Hook, line and sinker. This book kept me entertained until the very end. Written in a captivating, yet not overly dramatic way. It had enough twists and turns to keep you engrossed yet not too many that it made you dizzy! You could say it was a classic tale of good against evil, in a modern and unique setting, filled with controversy, cruelty, horrific discoveries, humour and a touch of love. It really does have a lot to offer.

The second in the series, started off brilliantly and ended in exactly the same way. It is very rare for a writer to be able to continue in a trilogy and start the second novel from exactly where the last one left off – successfully. Stieg Larsson has managed to do just that. And he even goes on to make ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’ just as captivating, if not more so than the first. He skilfully introduces about a dozen or so more characters, who fit perfectly into the weaving web that makes up this exceptional tale.

I have not yet finished the third story, but so far it is as promising as the last two and I really do not want to put it down! Once I’m done with it I will update this review.

Sadly, Larsson did not live to see how much of a success his books have been around the world, he died of a heart attack in 2004, but the phenomenon of the millennium trilogy will live on amongst millions of readers who have enjoyed it.
