Rummage FLOP

Disappointed shoppers..Road-block

So, like THOUSANDSSSS of others today, I excitedly headed down to Brick Lane for the American Apparel Rummage Sale. (the facebook event showed over 30,000 people planning to attend the event). It promised great things, such as up to 85% off all items, stock being constantly replenished, and prices starting from as little as £1. But the reality of it was this. Too many people. Not enough space. They hired a 22,000 sq ft space in Brick Lane (UP) Sunday Market. I wish I could tell you what it was like inside, but sadly I never even got through the pearly gates of American Apparel Rummage-dom. I arrived at the event in good time (it started at 10am), and was met with queues which were like NOTHING I have ever seen before. Bigger than the Beyonce concert queue, Jay Z, Alicia Keys....out of this world.

The queue did move quite quickly, and after about an hour I was pretty much right at the front, but to my dismay shortly after a huge commotion started, people running screaming (over what, I could not tell you!) police were involved, hitting people with truncheons, a guy got arrested for starting a fight....etc etc etc.

The police closed the event 'Until Further Notice' and a member of AA staff put up a sign outside which was probably printed in the panic, which advised us all to disperse and check facebook and twitter for further updates! I only saw about 10 people in total who had bags on them, and had actually bought things, because it was over that quickly!!!
The facebook page apologises for the inconvenience and has yet to confirm whether the event will go on as planned tomorrow and Sunday, however, they did offer to 'make it up to everyone' and posted some online and in-store voucher codes for 25% off purchases.
All in all, a shambolic morning! But all was not lost, I had to salvage the day and decided to go shopping anyway, and bought a few nice bits :D
